The school is located at Barra beach (the most central beach of the city - 3km to the Historical Center – Pelourinho), close to restaurants, coffee shops and shopping centers. It offers the best infrastructure to the student: the classrooms are spacious and comfortable, with air conditioning, video, CD player and computer to access internet. Is a beautiful house with a wonderful garden where the students can read books, talk or drink coffee.
The city Salvador da Bahia is a wonderful exotic city. This is the second most touristical city of Brazil and it has an interesting mixture of African and Portuguese influences, music, dance, food and dress.
Salvador, founded in 1549, is the capital of the state of Bahia. For over 200 years, it was also the capital of Brazil. Nowadays, Salvador is a modern metropolis with two million inhabitants, yet it still boasts its colonial treasures of the past - the largest collection of baroque architecture to be found in Latin America - as well as a vibrant, modern culture that is reflected in its innovative music, dance, fine arts and unique lifestyle.
Salvador is to be enjoyed by a process of infusion, time taken to soak in the atmosphere is rewarded with subtle pleasures that will linger. Locals still have time to talk to each other in this town; they also have time to talk to visitors, albeit often in sign language. It has been said that you can learn to speak Portuguese in a week using your hands, feet and smile. There is never a shortage of those willing to help you in the process.
Portuguese Language Classes for Foreigners #1 includes:
Accommodation: 13 nights at Mar Azul Hotel, located at Barra beach, within 5 minutes walking distance of School. Breakfast included.
Classes:
- Four 50-minute Portuguese Language Classes each day for 2 weeks. Classes are held from Monday to Friday in the morning, complemented by a broad intercultural immersion program with field trips to parks, markets, museums and group meetings. Classes are focused on conversation and listening. Grammar, reading and writing are also included on the program.
- Two 50-minute Samba and Dance Classes for one week. Classes are held in the afternoon, so they do not interfere with the language classes in the morning. Consist of a theoretical and a practical part. A professional teacher gives a general introduction to different rythms and dances or styles, resuming history, tradition and development of Brazilian dance. Be prepared for Carnival!
Tours:
- Full Day Salvador City Tour featuring Pelourinho, the Mercado Modelo (handcraft market) and other historical sites. This tour includes a typical Bahian lunch at Senac.
- Folkloric show with typical Bahian dinner at Solar do Unhão Fort.
Transportation: All transfers and tours in private air-conditioned vehicles with your private English speaking expert guide.
Group size: Maximum of 9 persons per group.
Professional qualifications of staff: The teachers are graduated from university, having done extra-curricular courses abroad and teacher training courses provided by internationally recognized local institutions.
Levels: From true beginner to high advanced. The new students participate in a placement test and an interview to define the level and the group where they will stay.
